Woodhaven Shores is one of the oldest neighborhoods in New Kent County. The community was put on the map when the dam was created in the fall of 1959. The neighborhood is comprised of 155 acre lake, ball field and 1149 lots -which contain just under 500 homes. Hawkins Field provides 3 ball fields for the New Kent Girls Softball teams to use and plenty of open space for members to use. All roads are private and maintained by the Woodhaven Property Owners Association maintenance team. There are 9+ common areas all throughout the neighborhood as well as a large T-dock, boat launch and enclosed beach area with picnic tables, volleyball net, floating docks and a pavilion with restrooms and kitchen.
The fresh water Kent Lake is contained by a large earthen dam, with constant flow of water from several creeks and hundreds of natural springs. The water is tested periodically to ensure a healthy environment for numerous freshwater fish, turtles, beavers and the occasional otter family. The lake is considered a Bird Sanctuary and is home for hawks, blue herons, eagles and many more migratory birds. The lake is also enjoyed by members of the community for fishing, boating and swimming. Life really is better on the lake.
